Today, my friends, it is October 31st. Halloween. Fright night. The time when the dead become living and the living become dead. Halloween Town's most special day. The holiday that launched a thousand costumes.
But, you see, to me and thousands of others, Halloween is just the beginning. Now, I've already pinned down Halloween as Day One of the Candy Season, but for me something much more sweet comes directly after. (Unless you count candy corn, to which everything sweet pales in comparison. Candy corn is my favorite kind of sugar.)
November 1st. NaNoWriMo. Inner Editors, Purple Elephants, Trebuchets, Blatant Lies, NaNoToons, the Traveling Shovel of Death. Cameos by a certain Mr. Ian Woon.
Thirty days and nights of literary abandon! Quantity over quality! No plot? No problem!
Eep.
Luckily, this year (unlike my three or four-ish other novels) I have a plot outline! And a character sheet! And everything is just as bland as it was last year. Also, I have to content with school and homework. But plot outline! Hooray for Zoidberg! (God, I need sleep.)
Anyway, to celebrate this happy occasion, I'm going to be having guest bloggers come in!
No, not anyone interesting. My characters (the wall-bangingly stupidly named Dragonwyck gang) will each be posting their own little diatribes each da—wee—whenever I have time. That ought to give me something to work with…

Dream Dream
Had another dream this morning. I just woke up from it and I do not remember any sort of logical progression in it at all. It was basically me walking around for a while with my laptop, watching nonsensical AT4W videos and bemoaning the fact that my mom got a giant bowl of candy and the only thing I could eat were these tiny mauve triangles that tasted like crap. My cousins put in an appearance, but the only interaction I had with them was grabbing one of the boys and pushing him in front of me while I shouted "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?" and pointed at a tiny, ratty, yappy dog that was sniffing around next to my pool that I don't actually have. For some reason, my house was host to a lotta tiny, yappy dogs. Also they put makeup on my cat and my mom's nonexistent-in-reality boss was sleeping in my bed.
I couldn't have been asleep for too long, because when I fell asleep my alarm was still purring and it's now seven thirty, while my alarm clock goes off at seven fifteen. I'm also typing this blearily while trying to keep my eyes open for more than a few seconds at a time, having just woken up. My apologies. Now I must go and… *thunk*

Ireland, pt 2: Sleep Much Want
Sorry to leave you hanging like that, but I was really tired and stressed after being awake for 20 hours straight. Now I'm not as tired and stressing over only having about five thousand words done for Camp NaNoWriMo. Eep.
What's more fun than going through airport security? What's fun to pretend to crush while looking out an airplane window? What would I rather do than have jet lag?
The answer to all three is "anything and everything." It also pretty much sums up that whole thing that was happening that very annoying and stressful Tuesday.
Well, I left the plane minus one cell phone carrying pictures of the Epic Emily. (Which, I have recently found out, never actually made it on the plane. It's still in the States somewhere, and Friends are looking for it, after finding and losing it again. I love them.)
I waited and waited and waited at three different airports, a car rental place, and at the cottages for some reason I can't remember I was sleep deprived stop looking at me like that!
Anyway, cottages. Five of 'em. With a sheep/goat/cow pen adjacent. I just can't enjoy farm animals anymore, after having cleaned up after them for… Wait, was that only two years? Wow. Seemed like longer.
But that's a story for another day.
There's also the peacock, which makes this ungodly noise like my cat crying to be let into my room while I'm trying to write because I'm so behind on my word count *sob*, and a lot of other birds.
After pretty much passing out in my bed, I was dragged, feebly kicking and screaming, for a hike. Well, hike doesn't really do it justice. It was more wandering around with my parents and the lone other under-18-year-old of our giant group, trying to find a ruined castle.
Guess what. There wasn't a castle.
(Actually, my dad and I found the castle later, but that's another day. And it wasn't a castle, it was a church.)
So we walked back to the cottages and had soup and cheese and bread with the rest of our group. Then I kind of passed out in my bed again. The End.
Next time on Newfallen Mystery, Omnia climbs out the living room window and runs around the farm barefoot.

Not very much like that at all.

Pretty bird.

Excuses, Excuses (Irish Edition)
Rest assured, dear reader, that I would love to recount my adventures of the past few days to you. It is a fascinating tale of airplanes, exhaustion, and whiskey marmalade, but, unfortunately, even though I've been taking careful notes, they kind of degenerated into random scribbles once the jet lag set in. As soon as I remember what I did yesterday, I'll finish up writing a blog post.
Today, however, I'm going to a butter museum. A better butter museum. Betty Botter bought some butter, but the butter was too bitter…
Ta!

Barcodes Are Easy
So, I couldn't sleep last night. Partly because of my own 'recklessness' or what-have-you, partly because I knew I had to get up in the morning, so, of course, I couldn't sleep.
BUT! One good thing came out of my insomnia. I can now read barcodes! It's easy, really. Kind of like binary, but not at all. And now I will teach it to you.
There are fat black bars, skinny black bars, white fat spaces, and white skinny spaces. The skinny white spaces are just the spaces between the numbers, so don't worry about them.
Skinny black bars represent 0's.
Fat black bars represent 1's.
Fat white spaces represent dashes.
At the beginning and end of every barcode is an asterisk. (Like this: *) Asterisks are represented by a series of bars, or 1's and 0's, that are identical at the beginning and end of the barcode. So, the easiest way to figure these out is to compare the beginning and end of the barcode. Take the fat bar/skinny bar combination from the very end and find an identical combination near the beginning. From that place on back is the asterisk, so you find the matching combination at the end and take those away.
Really, just throw them out. We don't need them. They're on every one.
Now you just have the plain barcode. My advice is to write out the 1, 0, and - combination, and then make a mark every 5 numbers. This doesn't include dashes. Actually, if you do it right, there will be two digits, a dash, and then three digits every time.
The combinations are arranged like this:
Happy Father's Day! *waves random flag*
(*Go back to the instructions, you moron; this isn't a footnote!)

- 5 is 10-100
- 6 is 01-100
- 7 is 00-011
- 8 is 10-010
- 9 is 01-010
(If I ever get a tattoo, it will be of the above list.)
This is only the most basic and common form of barcodes, and it doesn't work on packaging. You can't read your mail wrappers like this. At least, that's what the Wired website told me. There are a few other kids of barcoding, but my arm started hurting after that, so I just went to bed.
And now you know.
Happy Father's Day! *waves random flag*

My Mouth Hurts
Because I went to the orthodontist and now it hurts a lot. I can't eat pasta without falling onto the floor and screaming "Dear God, the pain!"
Okay, I may have exaggerated that a wee bit. But it still hurts.
Um, what was I going to say…
"You'll have to forgive her. Her brain is broken today."
I hate you, Claudia.
"You watched Back To The Future last night. Were you going to mention that?"
Yes, I did, and yes, I was.
It was awesome. I watched the first two movies and now I'm going to have to watch the third one or my brain is going to explode from wondering what happens.
Good movie. Really.
Oh, and I maded a little box that I'll write a quote in every day. Spawned from the fact that I have a long list of quotes saved to my computer, and also because I now am the proud owner of a copy of Horseradish.
Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.
